But first the mountains this morning. choice.

Kinja'd!!!

Have a really bad 2 shot of a really pretty International R series.

Now for the 90's. People got nostalgia fever for the 90's today but I’m generally not one of them, that being said there are a couple of things about 90's cars that are excellent. For example, My car has a full suite of Electronics, simple though they be, which makes diagnosing and operation much much better than earlier cars. But it also has some holdouts to a non-electronic age, like a latching persistent switch for the rear window defroster. once you switch it on...its on until you turn it off. I know that can be bad but I hate having a rear window defroster decide its done on a cold snowy day. Mine wont.

I also like that when I turn on the high beams, the low beams don’t turn off, I just get both high and low.

Things I don’t like? 20 year old rubber gaskets and seals around the cab. Sigh.

even with my 80s-90s cars i never got both low and highs at same time except, when you are holding the stalk to turn on the highs, both are on, but the second you let go just the highbeams stay on.

My Blazer had a rear defrost that should’ve stayed on until I switched it off, but in reality it would just go until the fuse got too hot and then it would switch  itself off. The headlights did the same thing, it was fun.

I think most cars with a mechanical hi-low switch go between two sets of elements instead of leaving low on. Doesn’t typically make thermal sense in a single housing with two elements to leave the secondary element on when its light is hitting diminishing returns re: the cooling of the unit overall. When lights are separated, it makes a lot more sense. My ‘87 Benz has single H4s that switch between active elements (electronic light control), my Rover has big 7" rounds with two elements switched between, and my Galaxie goes from two lights on to four... but the two that stayed active are double-element and switched.

It would be very easy for a floor-switch hi-low to get damaged so that the lows stayed on, I think, but that wouldn’t actually be good.

My pickup laughs at your luxurious rear window defogger. My wife’s Overland, however, scares the crap out of me with all of its gizmos. He have a 7 year warranty on it,  and I say we get rid of the thing before it expires.

Also, I haven’t been able to see the mountains here for weeks. Hopefully the wildfire smoke clears soon. Well, and I guess hopefully the wild fires that are the source of the smoke are extinguished soon, too.

Thermally it doesn’t seem to hurt it, the bulbs have been in there 6 years at least with no problems. Light wise it help enormously . I get spread and distance and its da bes.

90's HVAC was the pinnacle of simplicity and user-friendliness. Now we're just going backwards

MY HVAC is...okay. Its all push button and its got an auto setting. The auto setting works surprisingly well but the buttons can stick which is a little annoying and I worry about the temperature slider brass wearing out.

If I had an alternator in the Galaxie I might have researched running both sets of sockets for a double bulb, and doubling the high beams with the low beams. Double the low beam intensity, and high beam setting LIKE UNTO THE SUN. But, since it has a generator, I don’t know that that kind of load is precisely smrt.
